Larry Telles was the photo and art editor of his high school newspaper. He took a summer class in photography in 1953 at Laney Trade, in Oakland, California. Several years after he graduated, Larry enrolled in the Art School of Minneapolis correspondence course and graduated in 1971. After spending thirty years with Pacific Bell in the Bay Area, he went back to school. He graduated in May 1998, cum laude from Holy Names University in Oakland, California with a BA in English.
In 1999, Larry and his wife moved to the panhandle of Idaho. He teaches continuing education classes at North Idaho College, is the current president of the Idaho Writer’s League, and sits on the advisory board of the Inland Empire’s SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators).
Larry’s interest in silent films began in 1952 at age fifteen. His grandmother gave him Blum’s book, A Pictorial History of the Silent Screen, and he was hooked. Since that time he has branched out by collecting all types of material from “B” Westerns to cliffhanger serials. Larry is one of the founding members of the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum in Niles, California. His position on the board is webmaster and film historian.
Larry combines his photography, artist skills and writing to bring an awareness of the silent film era to those who are not aware of its existence
